About Me

I've been writing for fun since I was old enough to craft really terrible poetry about Pompeii. In addition to writing novels and poems and articles and blogs and screenplays, I was an English/Language Arts educator for over twenty years, teaching generations of kids to love words as much as I do, or at least to tolerate my enthusiasm with good faith.

I have a Master's Degree in Creative Writing from Lancaster University, as well as two Bachelor's Degrees in English (Hons) and Art from University of Redlands.

If I have a writing philosophy, it is this: great writing requires the experience of being alive to the world in a way that is both unique to each of us and common to all. It requires empathy gained through sorrow and joy and pain. It requires humanity.

To quote the great Joseph Conrad: "A writer without interest or sympathy for the foibles of his fellow man is not conceivable as a writer."

Also Joseph Conrad: "Writing in English is like throwing mud at a wall."

I am a life-long tosser of mud.

Other Ephemera of Utmost Importance: I'm she/her, and it's pronounced Minnie-yay.

“I write because I like to write. I find joy in the texture and tone and rhythm of words. It is a satisfaction like that which follows good and shared love.”

John Steinbeck
